The American Hijab Design Contest, aiming to present the hijab – or Muslim headscarf – as an accessory “as American as blue jeans” wrapped up over the weekend in Chicago.

The contest challenged designers “to create an American style of hijab.” Its website described some of the motivations behind the competition:

The way we generally see hijab worn in America these days is an Arab scarf style on top of American style outfits.
However, in the Victorian period, when it was generally fashionable for women to wear hats, Muslim women would adapt the style by simply adding a separate scarf around their neck, so as to be fully covered. They did not switch the hat out for an Arab-style scarf.
We’re looking for our nation’s most creative designers to create a truly American hijab style that speaks to today’s American fashion.
To qualify as a hijab under contest rules, all entries had to cover “everything but the hands, face, and feet in a non-formfitting and non-sheer manner.”

The winning design was a camel-colored, quilted knee-length tunic, worn with tights, high boots and instead of the classic hijab, a turtleneck and a knit hat.

Christians throughout the Islamic world are under attack. Unlike Muslim attacks on Christians, which are regularly confused with a myriad of social factors, the ongoing attacks on Christian churches in the Muslim world are perhaps the most visible expression of Christian persecution under Islam. In churches, Christians throughout the Islamic world are simply being Christians—peacefully and apolitically worshipping their God. And yet modern day Muslim governments try to prevent them, Muslim mobs attack them, and Muslim jihadis massacre them.

To understand the nature of this perennial hostility, one must first examine Muslim doctrines concerning Christian churches; then look at how these teachings have manifested themselves in reality over the course of centuries; and finally look at how modern day attacks on Christian churches mirror the attacks of history, often in identical patterns. The continuity is undeniable.

Would you help Al Qaeda fighters attempt take over a chemical weapons plant?

President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry essentially just did. Fortunately, the armed insurgents were stopped just a mile from the compound after vicious fighting.

It would have been unthinkable in the months and years after Sept. 11 that our leadership in Washington would be actively helping al Qaeda and other radical Islamic fighting forces secure oil fields in Syria, conquer chemical weapons plants and eventually the country.

But that's exactly what we are doing. The New York Times couldn't have been plainer this weekend about exactly whom we are helping in Syria.

In Mid-February, TheBlaze published a story about Anjem Choudary, a famous British Muslim who preaches that England (and all of the world) should convert to Islam and install Shari’a Law as the law of the land. That story also featured a key bit of advice from the cleric telling Muslims that they should use welfare as a “jihad seeker’s allowance.”

Published reports say Choudary lives off the generosity of the British people — collecting an estimated $40,000/year — as he openly preaches for the destruction of their system as well as encouraging hatred and violence against Christians and Jews…all in the name of Allah.

After the reports surfaced that the family of the accused Boston Marathon bombing suspects have received upwards of $100,000 in welfare over the past decade, something clicked. Was Anjem Choudary’s statement about welfare being the “jihad seekers allowance” a widely accepted theory among Muslims in America and around the world?

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) this week accused the Obama administration of being influenced by members of the Muslim Brotherhood into ignoring that the threat from radical Islam.

In an interview with the conservative World Net Daily, Gohmert said that particularly in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing, “it’s very clear to everybody but this administration that radial Islam is at war against us.”
